Colleagues,I'm writing in hopes that you'll help me tell our students about the Tennessee Legislative Internship Program. This internship program is ...... a fantastic opportunity for students to learn about the political process... paid... in Nashville... for academic credit... open to juniors and seniors in a wide variety of majors... not yet getting a huge response from our students this year--that's where I need your help.I can email you a flyer that you can share with students, or you can encourage them to visit www.legislature.state.tn.us/joint/Staff/Intern/intern.htm.  Interested students should contact me by September 29.  If you'd like to learn more yourself, read on ...Every spring, the General Assembly awards internship opportunities to college students from across the state.  Interns from UTC spend spring semester in Nashville working for a legislative committee or a member of the Hamilton County delegation, gaining hands-on education in the legislative process (and great networking opportunities) by researching bills, responding to constituent concerns, conducting policy research, and participating in a series of training sessions provided through the internship program.Legislative interns are selected through a competitive process, they are paid a weekly stipend and moving and travel expenses, and they receive 12 hours academic credit.  Students must be juniors or seniors in political science, pre-law, history, administration, social work, economics, sociology, journalism, or related fields, and they must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.  Interns cannot take additional courses that require classroom attendance while working as a legislative intern. This is such a great opportunity for our students--I hope you'll help me make sure they know about it.  Thanks very much.Chris Horne________________________Christopher Horne, Ph.D.Assistant Professor of Public AdministrationFletcher Hall 417-F423-425-1709
